and Next Steps

Young adults thrive when they know what to expect. Clear expectations reduce uncertainty and empower participants to plan. This play emphasizes spelling out steps, responsibilities, and milestones so participants and staff can move forward together.

Why this
matters:

Clarity reduces anxiety.

Ambiguity often causes participants to disengage.

Transparency supports fairness.

Everyone knows what standards apply.

Guidance increases completion rates.

Young adults manage progress better when the path is visible.

It fosters shared accountability.

Staff and participants can track commitments together.

Consistency builds confidence.

Predictable communication strengthens reliability.

Put it into action

Turn complex processes into step-by-step visuals.

Applications, credentialing, and benefits verifications feel daunting when presented as dense paragraphs. Translate them into one-page checklists or simple flowcharts with bite-sized steps, realistic timeframes, and contact information sections. Ensure everything is mobile-first and materials are easy to access and use on mobile devices..

For layout ideas and templates, browse IDEO’s Human-Centered Design methods (visual storytelling, journey maps) and adapt them for your processes: https://www.designkit.org/methods. Then test on a phone with two youth and one staff member—edit until all three can explain the steps back to you.
